T1 Internet Access for Dummies
This particular T1 Internet Service has been around for over 40 years yet in no way have there been numerous "flavors" available. The amount of providers has jumped from deregulation in 1996 from a few dozen to several thousand. Since the telecom shakedown that began in 2001 continues most of these companies are trying to stay afloat by capturing as many customers as attainable with low-cost solutions they claim being T1. Do not be fooled!
Numerous desperate companies are putting together substandard products they assert are T1 products. Be leery of products using the funny titles similar to "burstable" as well as "reach". These products are oversubscribed much like a DSL product. This means the provider puts a single T1 connection within a CO (Central Office) and gives T1 hook ups to three or 4 customers banking on the fact that they don't all make use of the service at the same time. True, T1 access implies sole access to the web and you always have access to 1.54Mbps.
Make sure the T1 service for Durand is a "clearchannel" item and isn't shared with other clients. Also be sure you have a powerful SLA or Service Level Agreement from your supplier. A SLA will define the access you will receive and the penalty the service provider pays in the event that they don't provide such service. If you need assistance, establishing the appropriate SLA gives you the help of an expert in case you don't have one in house. It's much better to spend a small fee up front than to enter a long term agreement with an substandard carrier. You can definitely get expert help free of charge by just contacting one of the many T1 brokers on the Internet.
