T1 Internet Access for Dummies
The T1 Internet Service continues to be available for more than 40 years yet never have there been so many "flavors" obtainable. The amount of providers has jumped since deregulation in 1996 from a couple dozen to several thousand. As the telecom shakedown that began in 2001 continues most of these companies are trying to stay afloat by capturing as many clients as possible with cheap products they assert being T1. Don't be fooled!
Many of the desperate companies are putting together inferior products they assert are really T1 products. Be leery of products using the strange titles such as "burstable" as well as "reach". These products can be oversubscribed very similar to a DSL product. This suggests the provider places a single T1 connection in a CO (Central Office) and provides T1 connections to 3 or four clients banking on the fact that they usually do not all use the service at the same time. True, T1 access means dedicated access to the web and you always have access to 1.54Mbps.
Be certain your T1 service for Calumet Park is really a "clearchannel" item and is not shared with different users. Also be certain you truly have a powerful SLA or Service Level Agreement from your provider. A SLA will specify the access you will receive and the penalty the service company pays on condition that they don't provide such service. If you need assistance, establishing the proper SLA gives you the help of a professional in case you don't have one in house. It's much better to spend a tiny price up front than to enter a long term agreement with an inferior carrier. You can also receive professional help gratis by simply contacting one of the many T1 brokers on the Internet.
